[Info] Comcast Fiber in Denver

In a conversation today with Comcast Customer Service. I was asking their intentions regarding the deletions of certain channels from the lineup. I was told that I will soon need a cable box for all channels and they would give me a cable box for just $1 per month. I said OK and asked what is going on. I was told that Comcast has been using fiber optic cable to the node (FTTN) for the past five years. Sometime in the near future they will be upgrading to fiber to the premises (FTTP). I found this quite interesting and thought that I would share this info here. Are there any other Comcast users on fiber?

Very interesting indeed. Thanks for the information!

I'm on fiber... but its FiOS of course, not Comcast.

Definitely try to get a review up of it when its done.

Its partly true. They have been using FTTN technology for a while, but it is to help carry the capacity from the nodes to the head end. Not what you are thinking. They are investing far too much in CableLabs / DOCSIS 3.0 to abandon it for FTTH, but it is there as an option way down the road.

I believe you are right. I have had the techs out here twice in the last two weeks for an extra jack install. Neither of them knew of any plans for FTTH in the near future. At any rate, I have no complaints against Comcast at all. The TV service is fine and the HSI is fast and reliable. We will see what the future holds.

If comcast were to do Fiber to the home, I think it would be 10 years out IF they ever even bring it up.

With DOCSIS 3.0 on the horizon, that's going to carry the weight for years to come.

The more channels you can bond, which will be a piece of cake, the more bw that can be pushed.

If anyone told you that FTTH is coming, they were mistaken. Now, that's not to say that FTTP isn't being done in some areas with businesses at the enterprise level.
